Institut für Systembiotechnologie

New face at iSBio

"Hello, my name is Kyoyoung Seo from South Korea. I got my Bachelor degree in Molecular biotechnology at Hankuk University of Foreign studies. For my master degree, I came to Germany and studied in Microbiology at Friedrich Schiller Universitaet Jena. I have continuously focused on production of useful metabolites by fermentation technologies. I came to Saarbruecken since I would like to broaden my perspective to system metabolic engineering which will offer more opportunities in my future. Here, all people in iSBio are really supportive and helpful, not only scientifically but personally. Especially, open atmosphere here encourages the members to share their own scientific opinions. Personally, I can enjoy talking with my colleagues. They are all lively and humorous. As a member of Mission project, I will perform research on production of pharmaceutical natural products using metabolically engineered Streptomyces. During my studies here, I will combine my fermentation technologies and metabolic engineering which I will learn here. Outside of lab, I love all kinds of games like board games, card games, computer games, and any other games. I am not really good at playing games unlike other Koreans but I still can say that I have an average level."

Kyoung joined as in Summer 2019 as a PhD student, after she had finished master’s in microbiology at Jena university. She works in our European project MISSION, where she designs and upgrades microbes from the actinomycetes group into cell factories to synthetize novel therapeutic molecules. Great to have you here, Kyoung. Let’s create some amazing strains together so that you eventually become the Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok in metabolic engineering.
