Institut für Systembiotechnologie

New face at iSBio

"My name is Lukas. I am a former bachelor student from the Centre of Human and Molecular Biology at Saarland University, where I enjoyed an excellent basic education in life sciences. My bachelor thesis at the iSBio gave me a fascinating insight into systems metabolic engineering and led to the decision to deepen this knowledge during the biotechnology master program, associated with the institute. The practical relevance of the research, the excellent research environment and the very professional working atmosphere at iSBio where the reasons to apply for a master thesis and finally as a PhD student. The subject of my project is to upgrade C. glutamicum into a cell factory for high value chemicals for human health and well-being, whereby a premium combination of genetic engineering, systems metabolic analysis and bioprocess optimization will be applied. I am keen to learn new methods and refine my scientific and interdisciplinary skills during my PhD project."

Lukas "LJ" Jungmann is a graduate of the University of Saarland's biotechnology master program, in which he was awarded a “Germany Scholarship” because of his achievements. Before starting his PhD in February 2019, Lukas has worked as a Bachelor and Master student at our institute. He obtained insights into several of our projects and is therefore closely associated with our team for some years now. In his doctorate studies, he is dedicated to produce novel products for the health sector using designer cell factories. Based on his results, we aim for new fields of application together with the bio-industry. In between runs Lukas half marathon. A strong prerequisite for reaching his goals in research as well.
